  • Child in need of supervision
  • Delinquent child
  • Neglected or abused child

About

Youth Court is a division of the County Court and deals with persons under the age of 18.

Delinquent Act

A minor charged with a delinquent act that is from an indigent family (determined by the Youth Court) will be represented by a public defender. A delinquent act is any act which, if committed by an adult, would be a misdemeanor or a felony, excluding crimes with deadly weapons or crimes which carry a life sentence or the death penalty. 

Establishment

This office was established in 1996. Mississippi law requires all minors to be represented by an attorney in formal court proceedings.
